SYMPOSIUM
SPEAKERS

“Organizations have a tremendous opportunity to preserve capital and reduce downtime risk by improving the organizational connection between IT technology decisions and critical layer operations – which currently are often overlooked or poorly understood. This symposium is a step in that direction.”

-  Ken Brill, Executive Director, Founder, The Uptime Institute

The Uptime Institute Faculty Involved in the High-Density Computing Symposium & Exhibition

The symposium will be facilitated by the nationally recognized industry leaders who are drawn from The Uptime Institute and from the management and engineering consulting staff of sister company ComputerSite Engineering, Inc., and from other significant industry leaders. Their broad industry experience and technical experience in managing and resolving data center problems complements symposium activities and enriches the learning experience of attendees.

Ken Brill is founder and Executive Director of The Uptime Institute, the Site Uptime Network, ComputerSite Engineering, and Triton Technology Systems. Many uptime innovations, such as dual power topology, can be traced back to his original work.

David Boston is the Program Director of the symposium and also of the Site Uptime Network. David leads Continuous Availability and Site Infrastructure Operations Reviews for ComputerSite Engineering.

Jonathan Koomey, PhD., is a Fellow of the Institute. Jon is an energy policy expert and has supported the Department of Energy’s Energy Star and other research and conservation programs through Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory and most recently has been a faculty member at Stanford University.

Rob Menuet, PE, is responsible for mechanical systems technical review of Institute White Papers. He, with Pitt Turner, is the author of the Institute’s uninterruptible cooling white paper. For ComputerSite Engineering, he is the mechanical practice leader for Mechanical System Diagnostic and Continuous Availability Reviews.

Hank Seader
, PE, with Pitt Turner, created the Institute’s Tier classification. In former positions, Hank managed the infrastructure of a number of very large and very critical data centers. For ComputerSite Engineering, he provides consultation on design oversight, operations and maintenance, commissioning, and transition to operations.

Lars Strong, PE, organized the technical content and vetted presentations of this symposium. For ComputerSite Engineering, he conducts Continuous Availability Reviews for small sites. For Triton Technology Systems, he conducts KoldCheck diagnostics and KoldTune remediation services.

Robert “Dr. Bob” F. Sullivan, PhD, had a 32-year engineering career at IBM. He was part of the IBM team that first identified zinc whiskers. Bob originated the Hot and Cold Aisle concept in 1993. For the Institute, he is a staff scientist and has performed detailed research on how computer room cooling actually works and teaches the Institute’s seminar on High-Density Cooling. For ComputerSite Engineering, he is a Continuous Availability Review team member and for Triton Technology Systems he conducts computer room KoldCheck diagnostics and KoldTune remediation services.

Pitt Turner, PE, has helped clients justify $1.5 billion of site infrastructure investments since 1992. He teaches the Institute’s seminar on justifying data center investment. He and Hank Seader invented what has become the industry standard Tier Level site infrastructure rating system.
