While raising temperatures in the data center has always been a controversial topic, it’s a strategy that has become more common in recent years. With that being said, it’s important to note that implementing airflow management best practices is a vital prerequisite to raising temperatures, (but perhaps that may be a conversation for another day). Today I’d like to provide you with a quick overview of ASHRAE’s guidelines in regards to the different server classes. Understanding what types of servers you have and what their allowable ranges are is important to know when considering raising temperatures in your data center.
